Newman University helps 60 local students earn their bachelor’s degree HERE in Southwest Kansas

Oct 7, 2024 (Wichita, KS) – Newman University announced a partnership with Dodge City Community College, Garden City Community College and Seward County Community College to bring bachelor’s degree programs to students in Southwest Kansas earlier this year. Courses are now underway as students begin their path to graduating with bachelor’s degrees in nursing, teaching, agricultural technology management or business.

“We take great pride in helping students continue their education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree through Newman University,” said Dr. Jessica Bird, Associate Vice President of Outreach Education and Dean of the School of Education and Social Work at Newman University. “Providing students with the option to graduate with their bachelor’s degree without having to leave their hometown will make a difference in these Southwestern Kansas communities for generations to come. Newman is proud to educate these future nurses, teachers and businesspeople and provide them with the experience and knowledge to pour back into their local communities upon graduation.”

The HERE bachelor’s degree program ensures higher education is accessible and affordable for all students in Southwest Kansas. Classes are offered on flexible schedules and while many students prefer in-person learning, online options are also available. The Newman University team works with all students to customize their education, offering night courses and other tailored course options as well.

All students who have graduated or plan to graduate from Dodge City Community College, Garden City Community College or Seward County Community College with an associate degree automatically qualify for a $20,000 scholarship towards course work on their bachelor’s degree through Newman University. Additionally, students who choose nursing, business or agricultural technology management will receive a federal Pell or state grant match. This means that all federal Pell or state grants will be matched by Newman University, up to $7,500. Additional scholarships are available for teaching majors as well.

The program already has 60 students who are currently taking bachelor’s degree courses in Southwest Kansas. Enrollment periods will continue to occur each fall and spring. Spring 2025 enrollment is now open, and students can complete the quick and free application at dc3newman.com, gcccnewman.com and scccnewman.com.
