Blog: Supporting Tarrant Area Food Bank in its Work to Eliminate Hunger

In News by Rachel Leadholm

Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) is based out of Fort Worth, TX and serves 13 counties across North Texas, proudly providing nutritious food items to people seeking food assistance. The organization is based around its belief that access to food is a basic human right, and does critical work for the community. According to the TAFB website, the food bank provides 62 million nutritious meals a year, and 1 million weekly meals are made possible for the community.

Last week MPC’s own Kirsten and Anissa teamed up with TAFB West at its Parker County facility to lend a helping hand for its Community Market and partnering agencies. The Community Market is a dignified experience for families to come in and choose the groceries their families would need at no cost. The day before MPC went to support TAFB West, the nonprofit served 180 families at the Community Market and expected to do the same the next day.

Amidst the government shutdown and the SNAP benefit pause, the number of families they serve have increased. In addition to the Community Market, TAFB West fulfills online food orders for families and functions as a distribution center for over 70 partnering food agencies, loading pallets of food onto trucks to support more families across the area.

Alongside their fantastic co-volunteers, Kirsten and Anissa helped bag up produce and fulfill over 50 online orders. They also had the opportunity to restock items at the Community Market and connected with the kind and passionate team at TAFB. MPC was honored to help with the crucial work they do, and we’ll definitely be back to volunteer!
