Boarding for Breast Cancer’s Fourth Annual Skate the River presented by LivOn Labs Champions Breast Cancer Prevention in Portland
The second event in the nonprofit’s Summer Skate Series raised funds for B4BC’s breast cancer prevention, education and survivorship programs.
August 19th, 2025 (Portland, OR) – This past weekend, Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) pushed for prevention with the Portland community for the fourth annual Skate the River presented by LivOn Labs. The 5-mile tribute-style ride along the Willamette River promoted B4BC’s mission of a healthy, active lifestyle + early detection as the best means of breast cancer prevention. Marking the second event in the nonprofit’s Summer Skate Series, the series fundraising total has reached $60,000, adding to the efforts from the 21st Annual Skate the Lake that took place in Lake Tahoe in July. In partnership with the Rockstar Energy Open and with roots in the action sports community, B4BC also activated at the event August 15-17th, leveraging its tie to the community to amplify breast health education.

Skate the River was an impactful way to close out the thrilling weekend, with participants, including Skateboarder Hall of Famer Anita Tessensohn Sanford, gathering at Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park early Sunday morning with gear, pink outfits and smiles in tow. Led by Olympic snowboarder, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Famer and B4BC-Co Founder Shannon Dunn-Downing, participants took off together to the Steel and Tilikum Bridges and back, with laughs, energy and love in support of breast cancer surviors and thrivers against the backdrop of the beautiful Willamette River. Once they returned to the starting point, awards were given to the top fundraisers as well as a Best Pink Spirit Award for the participant that went all out with in pink.

“B4BC has a special connection to the action sports community and is centered on the importance of movement for health to give the best chances against breast cancer prevention,” said Lisa Hudson, B4BC Co-Founder and President.. “Skate the River was a spectacular way to join the two together and have the Portland community come out, do the ride and have our message resonate with them so they can keep sharing it – and have fun while they do.”

Summer Skate Series
B4BC’s Summer Skate Series includes the staple Skate the Lake, Skate the Coast and more.
